The U.S. is beginning to exert more control over the Strait

The United States military has expanded its operational footprint across the Strait of Hormuz, asserting broad maritime control over the critical energy transit corridor following weeks of heightened naval patrols and interdiction missions.

Warships and carrier strike group assets operating under U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the U.S. 5th Fleet have increased surface and aerial monitoring along the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. U.S. forces are actively directing traffic lanes, conducting reconnaissance flights, and monitoring commercial tanker movements to prevent blockages and counter maritime threats.

Defense officials report that naval task forces maintain continuous coverage of the transit lanes, utilizing guided-missile destroyers, maritime patrol aircraft, and unmanned surveillance vessels. 

The expanded footprint allows U.S. forces to establish a real-time oversight of ship traffic through the strait, which normally handles roughly a fifth of global petroleum supply.
