President Donald Trump confirmed this week that high-level advisors from the United States and Russia will meet next week amid peace talks, just days after the president sealed a historic peace deal in the Middle East.
As the war between Ukraine and Russia has dragged endlessly on, President Trump has continuously pursued a peaceful resolution between Russia and Ukraine by meeting with the leaders of both nations.
On Thursday, President Trump said that he had a “very productive” conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which they discussed the historic Middle East peace agreement signed in Egypt on Monday, which will end the Gaza conflict between Israel and Hamas.
“I actually believe that the Success in the Middle East will help in our negotiation in attaining an end to the War with Russia/Ukraine,” President Trump said in his statement.
He confirmed that President Putin was grateful for First Lady Melania Trump’s continued engagement with his office and representatives to ensure the welfare and return of Ukrainian children affected by the conflict in Eastern Europe.
This will continue, according to President Trump.
“At the conclusion of the call, we agreed that there will be a meeting of our High Level Advisors, next week,” President Trump said.
He continued, “The United States’ initial meetings will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, together with various other people, to be designated. A meeting location is to be determined. President Putin and I will then meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring this ‘inglorious’ War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end.”
If such a meeting between President Trump and President Putin does indeed unfold, it will likely mark the end of the conflict in Eastern Europe.
Over the summer, President Putin traveled to Alaska for a peace summit with President Donald Trump, signaling a serious step forward in Russia’s willingness to engage in peace negotiations.
