The X-Report: A bizarre phenomenon at the Flight 93 crash site

The morning of September 11, 2001, began with a clear blue sky that offered no hint of the tragedy to follow. This peace vanished when the first hijacked aircraft struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The initial news reports offered conflicting information as the scale of the disaster became apparent. The reality of a coordinated attack settled over the nation after a second plane hit the South Tower. A third aircraft crashed into the Pentagon shortly thereafter. Fear intensified as officials grounded all commercial flights across the country.
United Airlines Flight 93 was the fourth and final plane taken by the hijackers. It departed from Newark with a destination of San Francisco but changed course over Ohio. The passengers and crew used onboard phones to contact their families during the crisis. These individuals learned about the previous attacks and realized their plane was part of a larger mission. In a heroic decision, they decided to storm the cockpit to prevent the hijackers from reaching their intended target in Washington (likely the Capitol). The aircraft ended up plummeting into a reclaimed strip mine near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at over five hundred miles per hour. Everyone on board died instantly upon impact.
Federal investigators and recovery teams arrived at the smoking crater within hours. Lillie Leonardi, an FBI agent, served as a liaison between the FBI and the families of the victims. She reached the scene while the scent of jet fuel and charred pine still filled the air. The devastation was absolute because the force of the crash had vaporized much of the aircraft. As she was surveying the site, Leonardi looked toward the woods bordering the field. She observed a shimmering mist hovering near the tree line that appeared out of place among the debris.
This light eventually took the form of angelic figures standing silently in the forest. Leonardi described seeing hundreds of these beings dressed in white and bathed in a soft glow. They seemed to be guarding the area where the passengers had made their final stand. She felt a profound sense of peace despite the surrounding carnage. The official record focused on the physical evidence and the heroism of the passengers. Leonardi kept her experience private for many years before detailing the encounter in her memoir, In the Shadow of a Badge. Her account remains a singular and mysterious footnote in the history of that somber day.
Why did she see these figures? Were they really angels? What purpose did they serve? It is easy for us to ask so many questions about the significance of the presence of these figures. What we do know is this: there is so much more around us going on in the spiritual realm than we realize. 9/11 was a dark day in our country’s history, and yet, we can take comfort in the fact that God’s ultimate plan was no more thwarted that day than any other. When the forces of darkness make themselves known, we ought not be surprised that God is near.
