Thousands of migrants invade Spain, reminiscent of 2021 Texas Del Rio surge
The surge of around 50,000 African migrants into Spain’s city of Ceuta this week evoked memories of the infamous illegal migrant invasion in Texas in 2021 under the Biden administration.

On the heels of a recent sweeping decision on immigration from the Spanish Supreme Court, the city of Ceuta has been overrun with tens of thousands of migrants rushing into the country from Africa.
Images of the surge – comprised, perhaps unsurprisingly, of young, military-aged males – swept through social media this week, showing alarming footage of African migrants swarming the shores of Spain, climbing onto land, and moving into the city:
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, there were two “triggers” for the latest surge of migrants into Spain: a six-month amnesty application window from Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and a decision from Spain’s highest court that allows migrants to legally swim into Spain.
It is believed that nearly 50,000 migrants surged into Ceuta this week.
The images evoked memories of the migrant surge that occurred in Del Rio, Texas, in 2021, during the Biden administration. At that time, about 14,000 Haitian migrants swarmed near the border, as Biden’s open border policies opened the floodgates for free and easy illegal immigration.
“While hordes of Third World migrants storm Spain’s territory, the United States’ borders are locked down at levels never seen before,” the White House “Rapid Response 47” account noted on social media. “President Trump inherited a similar invasion to what Spain is facing, and he stopped it on Day One.”
President Trump took swift action to seal the border upon taking office in January 2025. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there have been 14 consecutive months of zero releases at the border under the leadership of the Trump administration.
On the migrant invasion going on in Spain, President Trump told Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich, “It’s terrible. Remember that picture. That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in.”
