President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States will resume weapons deliveries to Ukraine, reversing a brief Pentagon pause that had caused concern among allies and Ukrainian officials.
Speaking during a joint appearance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump told reporters that Ukraine urgently needs support as Russian attacks intensify. According to Fox News, Trump said, “We’re going to send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves. They’re getting hit very hard now.”
The decision follows reports that the Department of Defense had temporarily halted shipments of key munitions, including Patriot missile interceptors and 155mm artillery shells. The move, intended to assess U.S. stockpile levels, led to confusion and frustration in Kyiv as Russian forces ramped up their offensive operations.
Trump clarified that the resumed shipments will consist of “primarily defensive weapons,” according to CBS News. These are expected to include air defense systems and precision-guided artillery to bolster Ukraine’s ability to intercept missile and drone attacks.
The president’s decision comes amid growing pressure from both international allies and congressional leaders who viewed the pause as a dangerous signal of wavering support. Ukrainian officials welcomed the reversal but urged Washington to maintain consistency in its aid commitments.
The White House later confirmed that the deliveries will proceed immediately. In a statement, the administration said the move reflects a continued commitment to helping Ukraine defend itself while working toward a resolution to the conflict.
The resumption of aid signals a return to a more assertive posture in support of Ukraine, even as the administration faces broader questions about military readiness and global priorities. Trump has maintained that all decisions will be made through the lens of American interests, but emphasized the urgency of Ukraine’s current situation.
