President Donald Trump announced that U.S. military forces conducted a precision strike on a drug-smuggling vessel operating in international waters off the coast of Venezuela. The operation resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals described as narcoterrorists affiliated with the Tren de Aragua (TDA), a criminal organization designated by the U.S. as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
The targeted vessel was reportedly transporting illegal narcotics heading toward the United States. President Trump shared footage of the strike, emphasizing the operation as a warning to those involved in drug trafficking. “Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America. BEWARE!” Trump stated.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the strike, highlighting the U.S. commitment to combating drug cartels and their associated violence. The operation coincides with a significant U.S. military buildup in the southern Caribbean, including the deployment of multiple warships and surveillance aircraft.
The Venezuelan government, led by President Nicolás Maduro, has denied any involvement with the Tren de Aragua and criticized the U.S. action as an “infringement” on its sovereignty. Communications Minister Freddy Ñáñez questioned the authenticity of the footage shared by President Trump, suggesting it may be AI-generated propaganda, though there is no evidence to suggest this.
