Vice President J.D. Vance is seen by many as the heir apparent to the White House in 2028, but the former Ohio senator and Hillbilly Elegy author isn’t commenting on his executive aspirations just yet.
In a new interview with USA Today, Vance discussed the “on-the-job training” that he has experienced during his first 200 days in the White House, and what it’s like learning from President Donald Trump.
“He’s the last person making phone calls at night, and he’s the first person who wakes up and the first person making phone calls in the morning,” Vance told the outlet.
And although President Trump is officially the oldest chief executive officer in history – he began his second term in office at 78 and turned 79 in June – Vice President Vance praised the president’s health and vitality.
Vance remarked, “Yes, terrible tragedies happen. But I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people.”
He added, “And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”
President Donald Trump is often praised for his remarkable energy and stamina. During the 2024 campaign, he worked extremely hard to capture political momentum and keep it going until Election Day. Ultimately, his hard work paid off on November 5, when he was reelected as President of the United States.
“It was really quite something,” President Trump told TIME Magazine in late 2024. “I called it 72 Days of Fury. There were no days off. There were no timeouts. If you made a mistake, it would be magnified at levels that nobody’s ever seen before. So you couldn’t make a mistake. And I think we just really ran well.”
