What we know about the Charlie Kirk assassin

Charlie Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. The attack occurred during his “American Comeback Tour” event, where he was delivering a speech and participating in a debate. Witnesses report the shooter fired from an elevated position, striking Kirk before he collapsed. He later died from his injuries despite rapid medical attention.
Authorities describe the suspect as college-aged. Law enforcement has recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle believed to be the weapon used in the attack. Investigators have seized surveillance footage, footprints, and other evidence from the scene. Two individuals initially detained were quickly cleared and released, confirming they were not involved.
The attack has generated widespread attention and speculation, fueled by social media activity in the days leading up to the shooting. Suspiciously, at least two social media posts the day before warned that “something” would happen to Kirk at the event. It is unconfirmed if the FBI is investigating these social media posts.
Speculation on social media has also highlighted a private jet reportedly departed Provo shortly after the shooting, heading south, then turning off its transponder and later appearing to travel in the opposite direction. While no official link has been established, its timing and unusual movement have raised questions.
Conservative commentator Steven Crowder has obtained information in an email from the ATF regarding the rifle used in the shooting, stating that Law enforcement has confirmed the weapon is a bolt-action rifle capable of long-range accuracy, consistent with the elevated shooting position. Also in the email is the statement, “All cartridges have engraved wording on them expressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology.” While not officially confirmed, the report is widely regarded as authentic.
The investigation continues, with authorities analyzing video, physical evidence, and eyewitness accounts. The shooter remains unidentified, and their motive has not been publicly confirmed. What is clear is that the attack was deliberate and executed with planning.
