Americans nationwide are clinging to faith more than ever in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s shocking assassination, spurring a resurgence in church attendance amid rising Bible sales.
According to Matt Zerrusen, the co-founder of Catholic nonprofit Newman Ministry, his ministry has seen a rapid increase in attendance across its 250 locations on college campuses nationwide.
“I have not talked to anyone who has not seen an increase in Mass attendance. Some schools are reporting increases of 15 percent,” Zerrusen said, via the Catholic News Agency.
This desire to seek out God comes after Kirk was tragically murdered while speaking with college students at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Kirk was a proponent of civic and peaceful debate, so his violent assassination seems to have had a deeper and more lasting impact on Americans who may wonder how something so sinister could have happened.
The rise in church attendance is joined by a surge in Bible sales. According to Fox News, data from BookScan indicates that 10 million copies of the Bible were sold through August 2025, seemingly indicating that Americans have been heavily interested in finding faith, even before Kirk’s death.
“Praise God[,]” said Andrew Kolvet, the producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” when responding to news on X about growing church attendance.
“Pray that it doesn’t stop. Pray that it keeps growing,” he added.
Since Kirk’s assassination – and his faith-filled memorial service on September 21 – social media users on platforms like X have remarked widely that they were inspired to attend church again.
One account, “Ash Farms,” noted that she and her husband, thanks to the Charlie Kirk memorial, were now “Jesus-curious.”
“Shawn and I are going to try church tomorrow. But how do you pick a church?” she wrote on X. “…Charlie’s memorial wasn’t even a week ago and it feels like ages ago at the same time. I want to feel what I felt during the music again.”
Another Tik-Toker (@robbywood89) posted a video of himself wearing a suit, vowing to start attending church after being inspired by Charlie Kirk. “I’m going to go to church,” he said. “I’m going to try to be a better father, husband, and leader for my family.”
