President Trump says NYC mayoral race may be ‘one of the best things’ for GOP
Socialist NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is poised to win the election this year, according to predictions, which means New York could be in for some big political changes

Self-described socialist candidate in the New York City mayoral race, Zohran Mamdani, is poised to win the election, according to prediction market Kalshi.
Mamdani, who has made waves for being openly socialist, now has an 83 percent chance of winning the mayoral race, while Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo has just 16 percent.
Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams dropped out of his re-election race in late September, effectively solidifying Mamdani’s lead.
Mamdani’s policy pitches are textbook socialist: city-owned grocery stores, free public transportation, zero-cost childcare, emphasizing LGBTQ+ protections, hiking taxes on the top one percent of earners, and perhaps most pointedly, “Trump-Proofing NYC.”
Mamdani told NBC recently that he didn’t believe anyone should be a billionaire “because, frankly, it is so much money in a moment of such inequality.”
Mamdani is also openly a practicing Muslim, which would make him the first Islamic mayor of NYC if he wins. Additionally, he has projected a pro-Palestinian message, and during an interview this summer on NBC, he refused to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada” – a phrase that refers to an expansion of Palestinian action against Israel, and is often accused of being associated with antisemitism.
While many are worried about the potential fallout of Mamdani’s policy proposals, President Trump said on Monday that this election may prove to be a valuable learning experience for voters that could work to the GOP’s benefit.
“Self proclaimed New York City Communist, Zohran Mamdani, who is running for Mayor, will prove to be one of the best things to ever happen to our great Republican Party,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
President Trump threatened to use the White House to fight Mamdani’s anticipated mayoral reign, should he win, by utilizing financial leverage.
The president continued, “He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City. Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?”
President Trump noted that Communism – the aftermath of applied socialist policies – has historically failed to yield positive results.
“This ideology has failed, always, for thousands of years. It will fail again, and that’s guaranteed!” he concluded.
