Military complex being built beneath new WH Ballroom, says president
President Trump’s most famous side project at the moment is probably the construction of the White House Ballroom, which he remarked on Sunday would be built above a massive underground military cavity.

President Donald Trump revealed a surprising construction caveat linked to the new White House Ballroom project, telling reporters Sunday night that the U.S. military is building a “complex” under the ballroom.
“Now, the military is building a big complex under the ballroom, which has come out recently because of a stupid lawsuit that was filed, but the military’s building a massive complex under the ballroom, and that’s under construction,” the president said, holding a photo of the projected ballroom project, which is styled to blend seamlessly into the Neoclassical architectural style of the White House.
The president continued, “The ballroom, essentially, becomes a shed for what’s under the military – including from drones and including from any other thing.”
He also said that the ballroom windows were “high-grade bulletproof glass.”
President Trump described the ballroom’s style as “almost a twin to the White House, it’s something we just wanted to pay tribute to the White House.”
The ballroom project was announced in 2025. According to the administration, the ballroom will be around 90,000 square feet with the ability to host 650 people.
Chief of Staff Susie Wiles said in a statement at the time, “President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail. The President and the Trump White House are fully committed to working with the appropriate organizations to preserving the special history of the White House while building a beautiful ballroom that can be enjoyed by future Administrations and generations of Americans to come.”
It’s hard to know what kind of secret facilities may or may not currently be under the White House already, but for a time, the Presidential Emergency Operations Center was a well-known bunker beneath the White House’s East Wing. Last year, the East Wing was demolished during the beginning stages of President Trump’s ballroom project, and presumably, the PEOC likely was, too.
