President Trump urges Senate to terminate filibuster before leaving town
The president is pressuring lawmakers in the U.S. Senate to terminate the filibuster before departing town for a scheduled August recess.

President Donald Trump is pushing the U.S. Senate hard to terminate the filibuster before lawmakers leave town in the upcoming August recess.
“John Thune should not allow the United States Senate to ‘leave town’ until it passes The Save America Act or, far better still, TERMINATES THE FILIBUSTER, where Republicans can then quickly pass everything they ever dreamed of, including a full and deep throated SAVE AMERICA ACT, the Budget, and the ever looming Debt Ceiling disaster, 1929!” he declared on Monday morning.
He warned that Democrats “will do it on day one” if they regain power after the 2026 midterms.
“Remember, stupidity always brings LOSING & DEATH!” he added ominously.
The president has long been pushing for the U.S. Senate to pass the SAVE America Act – legislation that would codify voter ID and proof of citizenship to register to vote. He has also strongly pressed Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to lead Republicans in a bid to terminate the filibuster to do so.
“Whichever Party Terminates the Filibuster FIRST will be the Party that survives and thrives,” President Trump said in a separate statement. “If the Dumocrats win this race, however, America will rapidly become nothing more than a Third World Nation!”
The slim Republican majority in the Senate has made it extremely difficult to pass the SAVE America Act. Terminating the filibuster is widely considered a last-ditch effort and would change the precedent for lawmaking in the Senate – hence the hesitation from many lawmakers to do as the president asks.
As reported by LindellTV, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has recently attached the SAVE America Act to a reconciliation bill, reworking it as a technical “fiscal” item to bypass the Byrd Rule – a policy that requires budget legislation items to be strictly fiscal. It remains to be seen if this will work in the Senate.
“Terminate the Filibuster, which the Dumocrats will do as soon as they get the chance, and PASS THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, and everything else, including the Budget, and upcoming Debt Ceiling,” President Trump stated over the weekend. “Do it now, before it is too late!!!”
