President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he spearheaded the renovation of the famous Lincoln Bathroom at the White House, restoring the room to its original 19th-century style design.
“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” the president said on Truth Social.
He added, “It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble.”
Here are several photos showing the renovation:
“This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!” the president said.
While this renovation may come as a surprise to some, President Trump told NBC months ago that he planned on revitalizing the space. He said the original 1940s-era remodel was “terribly” executed, per the outlet.
This finished renovation also comes amid the president’s grandest construction project of all at the White House: the building of a White House Ballroom.
The ballroom project is privately funded by the president and a long list of private donors like Apple, Amazon, Meta, and Coinbase, among many others.
“This is going to be probably the finest ballroom ever built,” President Trump told the press last week. “And we’re doing it [at] no cost to the country. The money is being put in by me and other donors – very great patriots, actually. And the spirit on the building of it is amazing…In order to do it properly, we had to take down the existing structure.”
The expansion of the ballroom has required the demolition of the East Wing, which has drawn some criticism.
However, the White House appropriately noted on its website that, over the years, many presidents have presided over sizable construction projects at the People’s House – ranging from President Theodore Roosevelt’s construction of the West Wing, which replaced Jeffersonian greenhouses, to President Barack Obama’s south-grounds tennis court restoration and White House Kitchen Garden expansion.
