President Donald Trump on Sunday suggested that the people of Iran may be ready for a “regime change” following the U.S. military’s precision strike on three nuclear facilities, coining the phrase, “Make Iran Great Again” in the aftermath of the weekend attack.
“It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!” he wrote on Truth Social.
Over the weekend, President Trump greenlit “Operation Midnight Hammer,” striking at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan by utilizing B-2 stealth bombers and Tomahawk missiles to exact maximum damage on the reported uranium enrichment facilities, per LindellTV.
On Monday, following the strike, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed the president’s comments about a potential regime change in Iran, noting, “The president believes the Iranian people can control their own destiny.”
She told Fox News, “If the Iranian regime refuses to come to a peaceful, diplomatic solution – which the president is still interested in engaging in, by the way – why shouldn’t the Iranian people take away the power of this incredibly violent regime that has been suppressing them for decades?”
Following the U.S. strike on Iran, the Middle Eastern country reportedly approved the closure of the critical Strait of Hormuz, which acts as a key waterway for transporting oil, according to CNBC.
“I can assure you the administration is actively and closely monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the Iranian regime would be foolish to make that decision,” Leavitt told the press Monday morning.
Amid fear that global energy prices will spike upon a disruption in the strait, President Trump released a statement on Truth Social Monday morning, writing, “EVERYONE, KEEP OIL PRICES DOWN. I’M WATCHING! YOU’RE PLAYING RIGHT INTO THE HANDS OF THE ENEMY. DON’T DO IT!”
He also encouraged the U.S. Department of Energy to focus on maintaining domestic energy supplies. “To the Department of Energy: DRILL, BABY, DRILL! And I mean NOW!!!” he advised.
